Support DISCOVERY Children's Museum at Donald W. Reynolds Discovery Center by giving where you live!
Since opening to the public in Sept. 1990, the Museum has established itself as an important community resource, becoming one of the Las Vegas metropolitan area's major educational institutions. On March 9, 2013, we opened the doors to the new DISCOVERY Children's Museum at The Donald W. Reynolds Disovery Center in Symphony Park. The state-of-the-art facility serves Southern Nevada as both an educational resource and a family cultural attraction. The Museum has set itself apart from other museums as it is the only institution in the valley that dedicates itself entirely to the educational enrichment of children through a hands-on and interactive learning environment.
Since our move to The Smith Center campus, attendance has doubled to more than 360,000 anuually. The 58,000-square-foot museum features nine galleries of interative, hands-on exhbiits in the arts, sciences and humanities; a Traveling Exhibition Gallery; and the 70-foot Summit Tower than encompasses 2,200 square feet vertically and ascends all three floors of the Museum.
DISCOVERY Chidlren's Museum is dedicated to creating and providing award-winning, interactive, hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) as well as arts and cultural programs to Southern Nevadans as well as visiting tourists. The Museum lives its mission 'to provide a vibrant and engaging environment, through exhbits and programs, where children from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds participate in playful learning activities that ignite a love of lifelong learning" through educational programs, events and community outreach.
The Museum's core curriculum includes:
Arts and Humanities Education: Centered around the Young At Art and Fantasy Festival galleries and led by the Arts & Humanities Education Manager, the Museum's arts programming features in-depth training, on-site artist instruction, special cultural events and other activities that promote, recognize and celebrate Nevada's cultural diversity.
Science and Nature Education: Fun hands-on science exhibits, programming and demonstrations, under the direction of the Science and Nature Education Manager, teach complex principles through easy-to-understand and remember activities and explanations. These galleries including Stolve It! Patents Pending, It's Your Choice and The Summit highlighting all areas of STEM.
Early Childhood Developemnt: Targeting Little Learners and under the guidance of the Early Childhood Education Manager, interactive displays and exhibits enhance a child's natural and instinctual oberservation skills, excite curiosity and encourage experimentation, exploration and discovery. Even for the youngest visitor, 21st century skills, financial literacy and economic development are incorporated into the experiences in Toddler Town, Water World and Eco City.
