Chicago Cubs legend Ron Santo was an All-Star 3rd Baseman and broadcaster who was diagnosed with diabetes at age 19.

Santo was a Hall of Fame-caliber player despite suffering from diabetes, a condition which he carefully concealed for most of his career; it eventually necessitated the amputation of both of his legs.

Santo raised over $50 million for JDRF through his annual Walk for the Cure and other efforts.

Santo passed away on Friday December 3rd, 2010 at the age of 70.
