Green Chips is a public/private partnership formed by leading community governments, businesses and organizations of the Las Vegas area to encourage and facilitate environmental sustainability initiatives in Southern Nevada, advancing the region’s identity as a sustainable destination, promoting green activity, attracting green investment, and stimulating green jobs. The organization does not replace existing community efforts, but seeks to supplement and magnify those efforts that contribute to the region’s identity as a sustainable destination.

GREEN CHIPS PROJECTS:

• Convene For Green - an ongoing effort by community stakeholders to identify and work toward common sustainability goals. In March 2011 over 150 representatives of local industry and government gathered to commit to meaningful action steps and sign a "Sustainable Nevada Declaration." Green Chips' next step is to launch a public outreach web site where individuals and organizations can learn about local sustainability efforts and share success stories.
  
  
• Non-Profit Energy Audits and Retrofits - by leveraging grants and partner donations Green Chips has coordinated the energy retrofits of the facilities of The Shade Tree Womens Shelter and the Salvation Army. Both retrofits included the installation of solar panels. Lower energy costs costs allow these organizations to free up more of their resources for their core services.
  
  
• Low-Income Energy Audits and Retrofits - In 2009 and 2010 Green Chips partnered with the local chapter of Rebuilding Together to conduct comprehensive home energy audits and retrofits for low-income homeowners. Upgrades to the homes included sealing the homes, sealing duct systems, and upgrading insulation.
